Approximate location of proposed site (Point 3)  - Less than 1

having
trouble with?
Left is the current site designated for spoil
that is dredged from Bayou Coden.  The
spoil site drains into ditches that currently
empty back into Portersville Bay which is
pictured at the end of the street in the
photo below directly in front of the spoil
drain.  This is the area in which the City of
Bayou La Batre wants to build their new
treatment plant.  How can we justify such
an environmental risk when we can't even
clean up the mess that is already there.

As you enter the site
You will see that individuals have
used example set by City of BLB
The collection site at the end of Downey Street is of
great concern to many residents.  Any collection of
waste on this site has the potential of creating
contaminated runoff to adjacent property or even
worse, infiltrating our streams that run into Snake Bayou.

After Hurricane Katrina, waste
was buried on this designated
birding trail at the direction of the
Mayor of Bayou La Batre where
it still remains.  The Mayor stated
that there were no alternative
dumping sites but in fact the
Chastang Landfill was open at
that time and accepting waste.
